With all the changes going on with the Auckland Plan, and all the media attention on affordability of housing in Auckland, it is easy to overlook what is happening outside of Auckland.

The overflow from demand in Auckland is creating pressure in the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato regions with significant increases in property values in those areas. Our Tauranga office is busier than ever, and we have been quickly building up staff to meet the demand. Closer to home, the Waikato Regional Council are currently engaging with stakeholder groups on a proposed change to the Regional Plan. Some limited information is available on their website in this regard. Regional plans have an overarching control in respect to Land, Air, and Water and all users of these resources need to ensure that they are aware of any proposed changes. With the large rural areas within the Waikato Region, farmers in particularly can be affected by changes to Regional Plans. As with all plan changes, make sure you are informed.
