Unitary Plan for Auckland update

15 May 2013

AUTHOR:Kevin Birch

As reported in February, Auckland Council released a draft Unitary Plan for discussion purposes in March of this year. [For background information see my February article at https://www.birch.nz/about-us/news/auckland-council-unitary-plan] In summary the Unitary Plan will be Auckland’s planning ‘rulebook’, setting out where and how the city grows in the future.  It will replace former regional and district plans with one document focused on delivering the vision of the Auckland Plan.

Auckland Council are seeking feedback on this draft document until 5:00 pm on Friday 31st May 2013, and have been busy engaging with the community on a complexity of provisions in the plan. Following feedback the Unitary Plan will be further refined until it is ready to be released as a notified plan for formal public submissions. Visit http://shapeauckland.co.nz/ for an interactive online version of the draft Unitary Plan. From there you can look at or add to the comments via Facebook and Twitter.

Responses to the draft document are varied across the City, and many organizations, community groups, industries, and individual ratepayers are hastily preparing feedback to the draft document.
