New Subdivision opportunities in Waikato District

17 August 2018

AUTHOR:Kevin Birch

The Proposed Waikato District Plan 2018 (Stage 1) was notified on Wednesday 18 July 2018. Currently, properties in the Rural parts of the Waikato District which were previously part of the Franklin District are governed by the Franklin District Plan rules for subdivision. Under the Proposed Plan these properties will now come under the Waikato District Plan rules.

This means, that under the proposed rules, there will be additional opportunities for rural subdivision for these properties. In particular older titles (issued before 6 December 1997) which are greater than 20 hectares will be entitled to create 1 additional rural title of between 8000 square metres and 1.60 hectares.

These provisions are not dissimilar to rules which existed many years ago in the Franklin County, which provided for an additional lot from larger rural properties.

The Proposed plan can be read online on the Waikato District Council website. Public submissions are now open which need to made before 5pm Tuesday 9 October, 2018.

A proposed plan can be difficult to read as it tends to be a large document. The website contains information on the process, how submissions can be made, an option to contact Council with questions, as well as a full copy of the document and planning maps.

If you support these new provisions and wish us to include your name in a list of  property owners who support these rules, or wish to engage us to prepare other submissions on your behalf, please contact our planning team on 09 2371111, or use our query form at www.birchsurveyors.co.nz
