Oxfam Trailwalker for Birch Surveyors staff

On April 6-7, 2013, four members of Birch Surveyors will be competing in the Taupo Oxfam Trailwalker 2013. Oxfam Trailwalker is the most life changing, team building, foot slogging, friendship forming, group hugging experience...ever!

This annual event is promoted and organized by Oxfam New Zealand to raise awareness and fundraising for Oxfam activities. There is currently around 50 teams registered for the event. The walk is based around Lake Taupo commencing at Kinloch and finishing in Taupo. Carl, Kelly, Tim & Brett will have to traverse 100km in 36 hours or less.

Oxfam was originally founded in Oxford in 1942 as the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief; this is now Oxfam Great Britain still based in Oxford, UK. It was one of several local committees formed in support of the National Famine Relief Committee. Their mission was to persuade the British government to allow food relief through the Allied blockade for the starving citizens of Axis-occupied Greece. The committee changed its name to its telegraph address, OXFAM, in 1965.

What does Oxfam do now? Oxfam New Zealand is part of a global network of Oxfam affiliates who all exist for a very simple reason – because poverty and injustice are unacceptable.
